Danger! Danger! YuKonstruct’s Don’t Try This At Home workshops, taught by experienced makers, allow participants the chance to (safely) learn about dangerous materials and forces.
Thermite is a pyrotechnic composition of metal powder fuel and metal oxide. When ignited, thermite undergoes an impressive exothermic reaction.
Participants in this course will learn how to use thermite to cast small iron pieces. The first half of the workshop will include a lecture and demonstration on thermite and casting. During the second half of the workshop, participants will get hands-on experience casting their own iron paperweights. This workshop is less about producing a final object and more about learning new knowledge and skills.
