Beginner’s Sewing: Totes!

November 5, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

This beginner sewing class will cover the basics in domestic machine sewing. Participants will learn the importance of correct threading and machine settings. Then we will draft a tote bag onto cotton fabric, cut it out and sew it up in one evening. Skills learned are easily transferable to making curtains, pillow covers or hemming pants. Sewing machines, tools and fabric will be provided to all participants. If you would like to bring your personal machine that is fine, as long as it is in great shape, has a new needle, an empty bobbin and is ready to go.

About the Instructor: Georgi is a part time seamstress and sewing machine repair person in Whitehorse. She prefers working with cotton canvas, modern, vintage and Japanese cotton and linen prints. Her sewn goods can be found at many of the Christmas craft markets and is well known for her flannel-lined toddler pants called Quilty Pants. Georgi picked up her sewing skills from her mom, her grade 7 Home Economics class and from Fashion Design courses at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. She is excited to start teaching sewing skills, tips and short cuts to others.
